Overview

Elly Mellie Cafe, nestled in the bustling heart of Permatang Pauh, Pulau Pinang, offers visitors a blend of local flavors and cozy café vibes. Located conveniently at Elevate @ Gravitas, this spot is quickly becoming a notable pit stop for those craving a mix of traditional Malaysian dishes and contemporary café classics.

The menu showcases a diverse selection, with standout dishes like the fluffy, well-loved soufflé and the robust Set Patin Tempoyak—a homely dish that captures the essence of local culinary heritage. Seafood lovers appreciate the Bawal with Masak Lemak Petai, a rich, aromatic dish that highlights regional spices and fresh ingredients. Pasta offerings such as the Spaghetti Carbonara add a familiar touch, though feedback suggests room for refinement to balance taste and seasoning.

On the beverage front, Elly Mellie crafts a variety of drinks ranging from Ice Lemon Tea to the indulgent Caramel Latte and Hot Chocolate Marshmallow. The Bingsu Thai Iced Tea is a unique choice, blending sweet, creamy textures with vibrant tea notes, although some patrons find its sweetness overpowering. The café also appeals to coffee enthusiasts with staples like Cappuccino, complementing its food selections well.

The dining experience is a mixture of sunny outdoor seating and air-conditioned interior spaces. While the interior offers refuge from the tropical heat, the outdoor corridor seating has garnered criticism for lacking proper ventilation and comfort, especially during peak periods such as Ramadan. The informal setup with plastic tables outside contrasts with the more polished indoor area, suggesting an opportunity for improvement in ambiance and customer comfort.

Service at Elly Mellie Cafe is generally friendly—especially with female staff members noted for their attentiveness. However, some delays in food and drink delivery have been reported, signaling a need for better operational efficiency to elevate the guest experience.

Families and casual diners will find this café accommodating, with kid-friendly options and an inviting atmosphere despite some spatial shortcomings. Its location in a growing commercial complex makes it accessible for both locals and visitors looking for authentic Malaysian flavors paired with familiar café comforts.

In summary, Elly Mellie Cafe offers hearty portions and a robust menu that highlights Malaysian culinary traditions alongside café-style dishes. While improvements in service speed and seating comfort would enhance the overall experience, the café’s strong food offerings and warm service make it a worthwhile visit for those in Pulau Pinang seeking good food in a casual setting.

The food was satisfactory, and the portions were quite generous. I particularly enjoyed the fluffy soufflé; however, the accompanying ice cream portion was rather small, insufficient for the 3 large soufflés. Service was slow, even not much customers, and the drinks also took a considerable time to arrive. I hope they can improve their service speed in the future.

I recently went out for iftar. Overall, I would rate the food 9/10—very delicious and definitely worth the price. However, the drinks were not worth it at all. As for the environment, I would rate it 3/10—there’s a lot that needs improvement. First of all, they served food in the corridor. It was already hot, yet there were no fans or anything to help with ventilation. I highly suggest they provide fans or something because it’s really hot outside. Secondly, some tables were just basic plastic tables, like the ones in regular food stalls. People don’t come just for the food; they also expect a comfortable environment. Meanwhile, those sitting inside with air conditioning paid the same price as those seated outside in the corridor. It felt very informal. At the very least, they should provide fans for the outdoor seating. Don’t just focus on sales during Ramadan—please improve the dining experience. The corridor also looked dirty, and the tables weren’t wiped properly. There were stains from who-knows-when, probably from old food spills However, the female staff there deserve praise—they were very friendly and always made sure the food was sufficient. Our drinks didn’t arrive on time. At first, we informed a male staff member, but no action was taken. Then, a female staff member came and asked why our drinks hadn’t arrived yet. She even provided us with plain water since it was almost time to break fast.

I went to this cafe last night, eager to try their bingsu. So we had dinner here and ordered as shown in the photo. Rate for the food Carbonara with chicken (5/10): the first bite, you can taste "not enough salt", the second bite with the chicken, the cream taste override all the taste. After had tomyam spaghetti , than i feel this spaghetti is better Tomyam spaghetti (4/10): the first bite after taste carbonara, sedap n cukup rasa. After a few bites, you can start feeling overwhelmed with over sweet, over salt, over cream. Until cant finished it at all The bingsu (2/10): too sweet cant finish too, taste like cordial. It mentioned mango orange, but comes with limau mandarin ONLY, no mango I still feel like the chef can improve the recipe and can do better than this. Please improvise. Thanks

It's more of a laid back simple dining experience. If you can't stand heat and humidity, do choose to sit inside. Outside is not really comfortable for Malaysian weather. Ordering is easy via the qr. The picture is representative and the staffs are friendly to answer your questions on the menu items. As we came in a group, we managed to sample quite a number of dishes. Generally their food is good and I enjoyed most of them. The smoked duck with rice came with an incredibly juicy and tender duck flavoured elegantly. The amount of duck given was also surprising generous. However the accompanying rice was wet without any wok hei. The fish in the fish and chips was fresh and tasty with standard fries and sauces. Lamb chop meanwhile had quite well cooked chewy lamb that wasn't tough but I felt the sauce was a bit generic. Fortunately the mash potato was delicious. Soft and silky. Enjoyable. If you like Korean style fried chicken, you should try theirs. I loved the tender meat, nice batter and light sauce. A bit of afterburn spiciness but generally an enjoyable snack. As for their tomyam spaghetti, it had a nice milky thick gravy which I enjoyed but I felt the prawn was a little unfresh and stale, left in the freezer too long I think. Cheese mussels was a bit small and the cheese and cream a little too excessive. I, however have to say that the chicken chop is large. Definitely tummy filling. Well cooked with tender meat and crispy skin. Complemented well with the sauce. Lastly the mac and cheese was a little flat in taste. And heavy. Probably best to share rather than being your one and only dish. The rice with beef sadly also had pretty wet rice but tender tasty beef. Meanwhile the nachos had adequate cheese, seasoning and mixed beef. Again this is a shared dish and not for an individual choice. In a nutshell, food here is enjoyable but a little tweak would be better. Environment is quiet and good for conversation. But patience is necessary as food takes a tad bit longer to come out of the kitchen.
